Welcome to Horizons Alternative Provision Academy
As Headteacher, I am incredibly pleased to welcome you to Horizons and excited about what we offer children and young people.
At Horizons, we believe every child and young person is important and has the right to a great education. Every learner is different, and our role is to provide learning that brings out their best: learning that is relevant, purposeful and opens up opportunities. Learning worth turning up for.
We believe in every young person’s capacity to learn, achieve and create opportunities. That belief sits at the heart of Horizons and everything we do.
Across our five purposeful pathways, we combine high expectations and high challenge with expert support, creating different ways for children and young people to make meaningful progress and achieve. Our pathways span Reading and Bracknell and bring together the established expertise of Cranbury College with new opportunities for children and young people.
Learning at Horizons combines National Curriculum and vocational learning with rich personal development and enrichment. We want children and young people to discover what they are good at, build confidence, develop skills, achieve qualifications, become more independent and prepare for what comes next.
Horizons builds connections that create a sense of belonging. We want children and young people to enjoy learning, recognise their progress and feel positive about what they can achieve.
My ambition for Horizons is simple: for every child and young person to be known and valued, to experience learning that brings out their best, and to leave us believing in what they can achieve.

One of the things I value as Headteacher is the strength we gain from being part of Maiden Erlegh Trust. We are part of a family of schools known for high-quality, inclusive education, with a wealth of expertise across different educational settings. Our staff can work, learn and collaborate with colleagues across the Trust, strengthening what we offer and creating more opportunities for our children and young people.
When children, young people and their families join Horizons, they will always receive a warm welcome and can expect to be understood, valued and supported.
We look forward to welcoming you.
