PRIMARY CURRICULUM

Our curriculum is designed to provide our young people with real, engaging, and positive experiences which support their personal development. As an Alternative Provision Academy, we understand how important each individual is to their own Learning Journey and that is why we place them directly at the centre of all planning.

KEY STAGE 1 & 2

At Cranbury College Primary, we offer a curriculum to meet our pupils’ academic and therapeutic needs.

Reading, writing and maths are taught daily in small groups, at the appropriate level for each pupil. These lessons are taught using Read, Write, Inc (RWI) and White Rose Maths (WRM) as we have found that these are used by many primary schools within Reading and the surrounding areas, therefore ensuring consistency for our pupils.

A cross-curricular approach is used with a different theme/topic each half-term. Across the school week, pupils access a full and varied curriculum and have a number of daily activities which encourage the development of sensory processing, fine motor skills, gross motor skills, oracy. These activities support our curriculum and allow pupils to embed knowledge as they apply it to new situations.

Assessment

When children arrive at Cranbury College Primary, assessments are carried out in multiple areas and interventions are implemented as required to close identified gaps in learning.

Therapeutic Interventions and Enrichment Activities

We offer a range of alternative curriculum activities which meet the emotional, social and mental health requirements of our pupils.  Pupils undertake our Enrichment curriculum on a Friday, giving them an opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding in six fundamental areas.  They also participate in off-site activities throughout the academic year to build cultural capital, support academic learning and promote social and emotional well-being, KS1 and KS2 SATS are offered to students who progress sufficiently to attempt them.
